Service

  • Kappa Kappa Psi is a SERVICE fraternity. Our main purpose is to serve the BU Bands in all of its endeavors. This does require chapter members to arrive early to all band rehearsals and events and also leave late from rehearsals and events.

  • Luckily, if you are a member you do not have to go to every service call (service call is our call time to do service). You only have to go if you are in that ensemble. So, Marching Band Brothers do not have to do Pep Band service if they are not in Pep Band. Furthermore, Pep Band Bros do not have to go to every game to do service. They only have to go to their color band service calls as well (White Band Brothers do not have to go to Red Band games just to do service).

  • You also might be wondering the types of service that the Brothers do. We do field lining (chalking the tennis courts, lining Nickerson and the TTC), Rhythm Section set up and tear down, instrument/equipment check outs/ins, Move equipment for travel gigs, attendance with Sisters at Pep Band gigs, and are Kaptain Kowbell’s talent agents.

  • We do have quite a few service tasks but working as a Brotherhood makes it worth it!

Officers

  • Many of our chapter members also hold offices. It is not required for members to be officers as there is flexibility due to our chapter size!

  • Some of our offices are more intense than others, so there is something for everyone regardless of skill level and experience.

  • These officer positions provide real-life skills that could be used in your future careers and help boost your resume!

  • Make sure to look at the “Our Chapter” page of our website to learn who our officers are.

Member Selection

  • The first step is joining us at The Smoker on November 8th and interviewing!

    • The interview is not meant to be something scary. It is just us seeing who you are in relation to KKPsi’s values and seeing how we can help you grow within the bands! It is not the only thing we consider when evaluating potential candidates.

  • Aside from the interview, we also consider presence within the overall band and attendance at our recruitment events.

  • Some of the qualities we look for in candidates are:

    • Ambition

    • Leadership

    • Service

    • Respect

    • Musicianship

    • Preparation

    • Brotherhood

  • You do NOT need to have all of these qualities to join the Brothers. Some of these terms are very ambiguous so we understand that leadership or musicianship or any of the other traits listed can be demonstrated in very different ways. The active Brothers will try our very best to look at candidates from all POVs in order to fully understand the potential in each candidate reviewed

  • New members are selected by the active chapter (so all the peeps you see in KKPsi merch). If you get selected, you will receive a bid for membership and have the option of accepting or declining.

Disclaimers on Selection

  • As mentioned above, we aren’t necessarily looking for the “perfect” Brother. We understand that everyone has things to work on. The point of the Brothers is to help you reach some goals and acquire the traits listed above. We are looking for potential, meaning that as long as you are trying, you are embodying one of our values!

  • Unfortunately, we do not extend a bid of membership to everyone that asks for one. We have to be very selective with who we ask to join our organization because we need people who will readily serve the band.

  • We take this bid selection very seriously and never intend to exclude anyone. We just unfortunately do not have the space to accept everyone. However, just because you did not receive a bid this year does not mean you cannot go for one the next year. We take note of character growth! This period in between is a perfect time to help develop and join us at a later time to continue to develop these skills.

Membership Candidate

  • If you accept your bid of membership, you will then enter what we call the Membership Education Period (MEP)

  • This period is meant to help you learn our ideals, service, and the community that is KKPsi Theta Beta!

  • This period consists of:

  • 8 lessons

  • 3 milestone ceremonies

  • 1 Joint Ceremony with the Sisters of TBS

  • You attend 3 chapter meetings

  • 1 Joint Assembly Meeting with Sisters

  • Other Projects

  • It may seem like a lot but we provide many resources to get you through the period. You will get a Big Brother who will guide you through the semester and provide you some wisdom. You will have the VPM, Roni, teaching you everything you need to know to be prepared to be an active member. You have your fellow chapter friends who are always there for you.

Dues

  • We do have to pay dues to our Nationals Headquarters to fund different programs to help us run smoothly

  • Our Active dues for this year are $145

  • Our new member dues for this year are $165

  • This is due on the day that an MC becomes an active member

  • We do not let money be a burden to people and work with members to create a payment plan to help pay off their dues whenever works best (Ex: 30 dollars a week)

  • If you have any more questions about this, please feel free to contact our treasurer, Ren!

Connections Beyond Theta Beta

  • KKPsi is more than just helping the bands and provides many personal benefits to members.

  • We have strong connections with the Sisters of Tau Beta Sigma as we work closely together on service tasks, and other operations

  • We have close ties with chapters from surrounding areas. Northeastern KKPsi (Nu Theta) is one chapter we frequently host events with and shows how the Brotherhood goes beyond Theta Beta

  • We are also connected with alumni. Our alumni show up to many of our events and support as much as they can. They also provide members with opportunities, such as internships or real jobs.

  • Because of how large the network of Brothers is, it is almost impossible for our members to not be connected to each other.
